About this place
For anyone winding down after work with hot, freshly fried food and a cold drink, izakaya Takara in Kyoto's Minami Ward offers a welcoming spot in Kamitoba. The kitchen is well regarded for hearty fried fare tailored to drinks, from crisp, aromatic tori no karaage (Japanese fried chicken) to sweet, tender shiro-negi tempura made with Japanese bunching onion. Guests can settle into a leisurely rhythm pairing their dishes with draft Asahi Super Dry, local Kyoto sake such as Eikun, or a selection of other regional brews.
The menu touches all the classic izakaya bases. Quick small bites like marinated firefly squid (hotaru ika no okizuke) and house-cured nukazuke pickles sit alongside savoury teppan dishes, including pork-and-egg tonpeiyaki and fragrant grilled beef offal (Moritaya hoso-yaki). When it comes time to close out the meal, diners can choose from gently shaped onigiri rice balls or comforting tori zosui, a gentle chicken rice porridge simmered in warm broth that hits the spot when hunger lingers late into the evening.
Open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 18:00 through to 2:00 the following morning, the izakaya works just as smoothly for a solo drink late at night as it does for unwinding with colleagues. Table reservations are accepted, and mobile code payments—including PayPay and Rakuten Pay—are supported at checkout.
